Russia Air Operations in Syria Update 21Nov2015

Armed Forces are conducting retaliatory operation aimed at elimination of leaders of terrorist organizations and their allies, disruption of control and supply systems, as well as destruction of the ISIS military and oil&gas production facilities. For that purpose, the number of aircraft in the air group was doubled and constitutes 69 aircraft.

Every day 143 combat sorties are performed.

Naval grouping consists of 10 ships, among them 6 – in the Mediterranean Sea. On November 20, the ships of the Caspian flotilla performed launches of 18 cruise missiles against 7 targets in the Raqqah, Idlib and Aleppo provinces. All the aims were hit.

In total, in the course of the air operation, aircraft of the strategic and tactical aviation have performed 522 sorties, 101 air- and sea-based cruise missiles were launched, 1400 tons of air bombs of different purpose were dropped. In total, 826 enemy objects were destroyed.

Main efforts were concentrated on undermining finance and economic basis of the ISIS. 15 facilities used for oil storage and processing as well as 525 tank trucks were destroyed.

60 000 tons of oil were prevented from delivering to the black market every 24 hours, terrorists lost the opportunity to receive 1,5 million dollars daily.

At the same time elimination of illegal armed groups and their leaders is continued.

23 training bases of militants, 19 plants used for production of armament and explosives, 47 ammunition and materiel depots as well as other facilities were destroyed. That ensures the successful actions of the Syrian governmental forces in the areas of Aleppo, Idlib, mountainous Latakia and Palmyra.

According to the objective monitoring data, the number of terrorists arriving in Syria is reducing while the flows of militants leaving the combat areas in the north and south-west directions are growing.

Illegal armed groups are suffering significant losses. Over 600 militants were killed by a cruise missile strike made against one of facilities near Deir ez-Zor.

In the course of the air operation, cruise missile strikes were conducted from the water zones of the Mediterranean and Caspian Seas at the distances of up to 1500 km; aviation was used from airfields located in Russia and Syria.

29 aircraft of long-range and bomber aviation made strikes from the zone of the Caspian Sea.

The range of flights of the Tu-160’s during the task performance from the water zone of the Mediterranean Sea constituted over 13 000 km.

In accordance with the orders of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, organization of cooperation with the French Armed Forces is started.

All the assigned missions were accomplished. The Armed Forces have passed to the next stage of the operation.
