Brazilian MoD Approves Caçador ARP from Avionics Services as a Strategic Defense Product

After the successful test flights of the Caçador ARP in Brazil, Avionics Services S/A and IAI proudly have the pleasure to announce at LAAD 2017, that Caçador, after a long journey, has been the first UAV (ARP) “Aeronave Remotamente Pilotada”, to receive the approval by the Ministry of Defense as a PED (Strategic Defense Product).

The ARP Caçador is a Brazilian version of the Heron-1 UAV, developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and operational globally by more than 20 customers. The “Caçador” as a product, complies with the Brazilian national contents requirements. The prototype took off last year for some test flights done from our base in the Botucatu (SDBK airfield) in the Sao-Paulo state, after complying with all the regulations and obtaining all the approvals and flight permissions required by the Brazilian Governmental Authorities.

Since signing a cooperation agreement 3 years ago, IAI and Avionics Services have worked together to establish a strong Brazilian industrial base in the field of Unmanned Systems (ARP). The process included significant efforts of technology and knowledge transfer to ensure enhanced independence of the Brazilian Industry in the complex proficiency of advanced unmanned systems (ARP´s). Avionics Services has professionally established at the Botucatu airfield the required infrastructure to produce and maintain ARP´s, being a center of excellence for (ARP´s) unmanned aerial systems.

The ARP Caçador is a Medium Altitude Long Endurance UAV, capable of flying more than 40 hours, at altitudes of up to 30,000 feet. The maximum take-off weight of the UAV is 1,270kg which enables it to carry multiple payloads simultaneously to perform a variety of missions. In addition, the communication link of the Caçador can reach a LOS (Line-of-Sight) range of 250km. If includes a broad-band satellite communication channel, that allows it to operate at ranges of more than 1,000 km from its base, with its command and control station located anywhere in the Country – a capability of high value especially in large countries such as Brazil.

The successful approval of Caçador ARP as a PED, demonstrates the capabilities and strength of Avionics in deploying cutting-edge technologies and taking leadership in the ARP (UAVs) Brazilian and Latin America markets, and the huge potential of the teaming with IAI. The Caçador ARP, as well as the other products developed together with IAI, offers strategic ARP systems to customers in Brazil and Latin America for Military and Civil applications, while assuring local support and immediate response to our customers in those regions."

It is a perfect system for; border control, monitoring illegal activities, environmental monitoring, pollution control, Oil & gas industries, Precision Agriculture and Military multi missions’ application with real time information.
