Northrop Grumman Highlights Global Security Capabilities at LAAD 2011

LONDON – April 8, 2011 – Northrop Grumman Corporation will display an array of its defence and security capabilities including marine navigation, communications, command and control, and unmanned aerial systems at the Latin America Aerospace and Defence (LAAD) 2011 exhibition in Rio de Janeiro.

LAAD is one of the leading trade shows for the defence and security industry in Latin America and specialises in capabilities and technologies for armed forces, police, special forces and security services. The exhibition is at Riocentro, Rio de Janeiro 12-15 April. The Northrop Grumman exhibit is at location B-40, Hall 4 and N-56b in Hall 3.

"We have a well established relationship with our customers in Brazil and our objective is to continue to work closely with them to provide long-term capability solutions and help enhance national security," said Nolasco DaCunha, vice president, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine. "Our expertise in the design, development and production of navigation and control systems, radar systems and airborne surveillance is well matched to meeting the region's growing defence and security requirements."

Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit will be displaying a range of its latest generation marine navigation, ship control and coastal surveillance radar solutions including the VisionMaster FT Integrated Bridge and Platform Management System. The VisionMaster FT Total Watch multi-function workstation will be on display including the warship electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS). VisionMaster FT provides a highly integrated fully networked suite of marine radar and electronic charting systems designed to form the backbone of the modern ship's integrated bridge.

Other capabilities which will be highlighted are the maritime domain awareness coastal surveillance system, the SeaGuard XBCR x-band coherent radar for small target detection and situational awareness, and the LFK-100 fibre optic gyrocompass, a solid-state, fully electronic, digital gyrocompass system for integrated bridges.

The company's industry-leading Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) programme will be featured with a full-scale model of Northrop Grumman's AN/APG-68(V)9 mechanically scanned array radar for the F-16 multi-role fighter aircraft.

Northrop Grumman's airborne surveillance capability will be highlighted with a model of the combat-proven RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft. Most recently, Global Hawk has been providing vital aerial surveillance in support of the earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan, further demonstrating its ability to provide vital support to national security and humanitarian relief operations. Additionally, Global Hawk is supporting operations in Afghanistan and Libya, where it is performing more sorties at a faster rate and covering a wider than earlier test and evaluation results predicted.

The company's air traffic management ground to-air communications systems will be exhibited including the capabilities of the VOIP-enabled PAE T6 and PAE M7 VHF/UHF multimode digital radios. Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, based in the U.K., is an industry leader in air traffic management solutions for airports around the world and has been particularly successful in Brazil. Over the last 10 years, the company has been contracted by the Brazilian air traffic control authorities to install its radio systems at nearly 100 sites across the country.

Northrop Grumman's U.K. capabilities in civil defence and security solutions will be highlighted in its exhibit in the U.K. pavilion at Stand N-56b in Hall 3. Featured will be the company's tactical command and control systems, Integrated Tactical Command and Control Services (I-TaCCS) and Integrated Joint Operational Command and Control Services (I-JOCCS). The core software component of I-TaCCS is used around the world and is in service in more than 40 countries with 100,000 users.
