2 - ROSOBORONEXPORT AT
FIDAE 2008
INTERNATIONAL AIR & SPACE FAIR

It is the eighth time the Rosoboronexport State Corporation has taken part in the FIDAE International Air & Space Fair. The Russian government has ordered Rosoboronexport to sponsor a common national exposition. Rosoboronexport represents the intellectual potential and production capabilities of the Russian defence industry, comprising in excess of 700 enterprises. The Rosoboronexport State Corporation exported US $6.2 billion’s worth of Russian arms in 2007.

Air Defence Systems

Russian air defence systems, displayed at FIDAE 2008, comprise the cutting-edge Tor-M2E surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, designed to counter massive air strikes and destroy cruise missiles, air-based missiles and guided bombs, precision-guided munitions (PGM), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) at medium, low, and extremely low altitudes in adverse air and jamming environment. The Tor-M2E is a follow-on of the Tor-M1 SAM system. It features new technical solutions, which enable the system to simultaneously engage more targets and expand its coverage. All Tor-M2E components are mounted on the same wheeled or tracked high-mobility vehicle. The Tor-M2E is up to two- to three-fold superior to the Tor-M1 SAM system, as far as its overall efficiency is concerned.

The Russian Buk-M2E SAM system is a contemporary medium-range air defence system, designed to destroy any type of aerodynamic targets throughout their operating ranges in an adverse ECM environment and heavy enemy fire, as well as to kill theatre ballistic missiles, air-based missiles, and surface- and ground-based targets with good radar signatures.

The Buk-M2E SAM system is the latest modification of the Buk-family air defence systems. As compared with the Buk-M1-2, the new version features four-fold as many target channels, an improved performance, and cutting-edge workstations with LCD displays. At the request of the customer, units, equipped with such systems, and separate self-propelled launchers may operate autonomously. Such a pattern allows the number of simultaneously defended sites to be increased regardless of the range between them. The Buk-M2E is the world’s top medium-range SAM system.
