SCD Introduces Three Advanced IR Detectors for a Variety of Electro-Optic Applications

Semi Conductor Devices (SCD) – a leader in the development and manufacture of cooled and uncooled infrared detectors and laser diodes – introduces three (3) advanced IR modules for a variety of electro-optical applications at Defexpo India 2016.

The PELICAN-D LW is a cooled IR detector for gunner sights, designed for unmanned armored vehicles, Main Battle Tanks (MBTs), and Armored Fight Vehicles (AFVs). It enables the recognition and identification of a NATO target at very long ranges, day & night. The Type-II Super Lattice (T2SL) sensing material allows ongoing reliable, high quality, and more efficient production. Based on the Pelican-D MW mechanical and electrical interface, the Pelican-D LW enables quick and easy system integration. Main features include a high frame rate (360HZ at full window), a camera-link interface, and a bi-directional scan.

The VOx Imager is a low SWaP (Size, Weight and Power) uncooled video core for military applications. It can be integrated with a variety of electro-optic systems, including thermal weapon sights, hand-held thermal imaging devices, enhanced night vision systems for armored vehicles and MBTs, and small UAVs.

The VOxI is a 1-inch cube IR module, weighing less than 43 grams, with a power consumption requirement of less than 1 Watt. The VOxI integrates SCD's advanced, highly sensitive Bird 64017 micron detector with ceramic packaging, enabling long-range human target recognition with small optics.

The Cardinal 640 is a SWIR (Short Wave Infra-Red) detector for long-range surveillance and observation systems, enabling visibility for dozens of kilometers in even the most difficult atmospheric conditions – including humidity, rain, dust, fog and smoke. Additional applications include an image intensifier replacement (for goggles, weapon sights, etc.) and enhanced night vision for driving sights. The Cardinal detector is fully operational and provides a unique, superbly clear picture. Main features include a high frame rate and a low floor noise mode. Among its unique features, the Cardinal includes a special function capability of Asynchronous Laser Pulse Detection (ALPD), which enables a "see spot" capability at a pixel level and in complex scenarios.

According to Baruch Glick, SCD's CEO "We are pleased to introduce our three new solutions at Defexpo India. We continue to develop the most advanced solutions to enable our customers to enjoy day/night visibility capabilities in every application and under all environmental conditions." He continued, "India is one of the most important markets for us. We are working to bring our manufacturing, support, and maintenance capabilities to India, in collaboration with local companies and the Indian establishment."

Semi Conductor Devices (SCD) develops and manufactures a full spectrum of cooled and uncooled infrared detectors and laser diodes. The company's advanced concepts and cutting-edge technologies have positioned it as one of the world's leading sources of IR detectors. The close relationship between SCD and well-established systems houses such as Rafael, Israel Aircraft Industries and Elbit Systems ensure that SCD's detectors are specified and produced in accordance with the latest military requirements.

The continuous feedback from the Israel Defense Forces lays the ground for new R&D activities to meet future battlefield demands. SCD offers a complete range of off-the-shelf and custom-designed detectors and laser diodes in various configurations – which are typically applied in IR seekers, thermal imagers, smart munitions, night navigation systems, laser rangefinders and laser designators. SCD's detectors are designed to meet the entire IR spectrum – from SWIR to MWIR to LWIR.
